BLOG: Ups and downs in the cups for Westfields

With an inconsistent season nearly behind them, Westfields have added a piece of silverware to the cabinet winning the HFA County Cup for the fifth consecutive season writes NLD blogger Rhys Williams

310 fans turned up at Pegasus Juniors' Old School Lane to see Fields brush past local rivals Wellington. Goals from Marcus Palmer, Tom Bendall and Craig Jones cancelled out a Paul Jones equaliser to secure the Cup.

Easter Monday's Cup win eased the disappointment of being knocked out of the Midland Football League Cup by Long Eaton United. The Semi Final was played over two legs with Fields surrendering a first leg lead to lose the second leg.

With the Cup's out of the way it's now time to focus on the League and with five games left of the season Sean Edwards will be looking to push his team to a top 5 finish with the view of carrying it on next season.

He will also be looking to keep the nucleas of his squad with Matt Gwynne, Craig Jones, Joel Edwards and Matt Reeve likely to be top of the clubs retained list. I feel adding more experienced faces will also be needed to balance out the squad and create a real force to mount a serious title bid.

One player that will no doubt be in Sean's plans is Youngster Tom Bendall who has been a breath of fresh air for the second half of the season, scoring two important Cup goals along with an impressive season at Under 18 level. I'm in no doubt that Tom will be looking to kick on from this season and secure a place in the First Team squad.

However in all honesty there's plenty of time to think ahead to next season, but right now it's time to finish off the season in style.
