Cup fever hits Westfields

It's been well documented over the past week that Westfields have a Semi Final tie against Long Eaton United to look forward to, but that's not the only cup action the club will see writes NLD blogger Rhys Williams.

On Monday 6th April they face local rivals and West Midlands Regional side Wellington FC in the final of the HFA Senior Challenge Cup.

A competition that Fields have won for the past four seasons and there's no doubt that Sean Edwards' side are looking to take their tally to five Cups in five seasons.

After overcoming Kington Town, Fownhope and last seasons finalist Pegasus Juniors in previous rounds, Fields will be thriving at the opportunity to take on an in form Wellington team who currently sit 10th in West Midlands Regional League Premier Division.

With key players such as Marcus Palmer and Jamie Cuss hitting a scoring spree, Westfields chances are stronger than ever. But I'm sure Derrick Williams' Wellington side won't go down without a fight.

My predictions are that Westfields will win, it will be a close game, but we will just edge it. So I'm going for 2-1 Westfields.

Having two cups to play for as well as finishing off the season with a top 6 finish will be a great end to what has been a inconsistent season for Westfields. I'm hoping next year we can kick on and have an FA Cup run as well as finally getting out of the Midland Football League.
