Abbs Excited By City Return

Joey Abbs is looking forward to making up for lost time after making his return to training at Calor League Premier Division club Cambridge City.

The midfielder's last appearance for the Lilywhites was against Chesham on November 20 as a hip operation ruled him out for the majority of the last campaign.

Abbs (pictured) said: "I hadn't kicked a ball since November. We did a bit of ball work on Tuesday night, so that was nice. It was a strange feeling, but I'm enjoying being back.

"I had a bit of hope I could get back for the last two or three games of last season, but after the operation I realised that wasn't going to happen.

"I was glad I didn't push myself back too soon and it's worked out well in the end.

"I wouldn't say I feel 100 per cent yet, but the leg feels fine and there are no problems with it. We only started back in training on Saturday, so I think I'll be a bit tentative for the first two or three weeks as it was a major operation.

"I've been running on it for three months though, so I'm probably a bit fitter than the other lads and once I get a few friendlies under my belt then I'll be fine."
