Aspin Fumes After 'Abysmal' First Half

Neil Aspin, manager of Conference Premier new boys FC Halifax Town, did not shy away from his true feelings after seeing his side receive a first half mauling at the hands of Bradford Park Avenue this week.

The Shaymen found themselves 4-0 down at the break and although a mini-revival in the second half brought them to the brink of an equaliser, a late Paul Bolland strike ensured a 5-3 friendly victory for the home side.

Unsurprisingly, it was the opening half performance that enraged the Shay chief (pictured), who told Shaymen Player: "I have learnt more from that abysmal first half performance than I have in all of the other pre-season games put together.

"You never want to lose any game and you never want to play poorly but if you are going to lose and you are going to play poorly, then you might as well do it in pre-season.

"There were certain questions that we asked in the first half and they got an emphatic answer. I had to do something about that.

"But you don't need to be an expert to see what went wrong. We gave away appalling goals and we were absolutely terrible at the back.

"There was no pressure on the ball, there was no closing down, no shape, no passion, no determination, no desire, there was a lot of bad play and there were a lot of mistakes.

"If you put all that in together, then that is what you'll get – a 45 minutes like that. It is something to learn from and it is something that I need to put right for when the season starts."
