Bampton Stays Where He Is

Dave Bampton, captain of Calor League Division One South & West club Swindon Supermarine, never held sit-down talks with his suitors and found it a straightforward decision to stay at a club where he is 'wanted'.

The 28-year-old centre-back was contacted by Hungerford and Maidstone this summer but did not formally discuss a switch to either outfit, electing instead to sign at Marine for 2013/14 on Wednesday.

The former Worcester City man admits he would have been happy to at least discuss a move elsewhere, but was more than content to remain at the Webb's Wood Stadium for the upcoming season.

"I didn't see any reason not to stay, I enjoy it here. The management and the backroom staff are all good and it's a good setup," said Bampton (pictured).

"I could have gone elsewhere I suppose, but I chose to stay here in the end and I'm happy to be here.

"I would have listened to what Hungerford had to offer, but they never got in touch in the end. I was texting their manager (Bobby Wilkinson) but I never had a phone call.

"I spoke to someone at Maidstone and they said their manager (Jay Saunders) would be in touch, but I haven't heard anything from them and I think you've got to take it with a pinch of salt sometimes. You hear lots of things, but until a manager gets in touch you can't really say.

"I know the club badly want us and I don't want to go anywhere where they are um-ing and ah-ing over a decision. I was happy to stay here because I know I'm wanted here."
