Boro players forgo wages after cup exit

Tommy Wright has said his Nuneaton Town team have put their money where their mouths are by sacrificing a week's wages after their FA Cup exit last weekend.

The Boro were outplayed by lower league Nantwich Town in the Third Qualifying round match-up going down 3-0 at the Weaver Stadium.

The defeat, coupled with the poor start to life in the Vanarama National League North this season, has left Wright - and the squad – far from happy.

They have grouped together to show their feelings by giving up a week's wage.

Wright said: "This is not just about Saturday, this is about the season as a whole.

"Yes Saturday leaves a financial gap for this football club, us giving up a week's wage helps fill that.

"But it is more than that. It is about us showing that this hurts. Talk is cheap in football and we wanted to do something as a group to show that we mean it. We are sorry for how we have started and this seemed the best way.

"I mean this is going to hurt. We are not on big money, this is people's bills we are talking about. But we wanted to act and in a way that shows that we are not happy and I think we have done that."
