Carey To Run Rule Over Local Stars

Alan Carey, the new manager of Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Premier Division club Newquay, has revealed he is looking forward to giving local players a chance to play for the club – after losing 10 of last season's squad.

Danny Brook, Josh Harris, Tom Blackler, Mark Vercesi, Ashley Piggott, Josh Sims, Matt Drummond, Jonny Ludlam, Matt David and Ollie Deadman have all left the club.

But Carey (pictured) insists he now has a chance to run the rule over young players from the area.

He said: "Of course, losing so many players is disappointing, but Newquay have probably the best youth setup in the county and that's what attracted me to coming here."

A number of reserve team players will be given their chance to impress in pre-season.

Wadebridge duo Tom Vercoe and Nick Dowling have joined the club, while Rob Wearne and Glen Squires arrive from Falmouth.
