Cheshunt Boss Proud of Wycombe-Bound Defender

Tony Faulkner, manager of Ryman League Division One North club Cheshunt, has spoken of his pride after defender Tommy Fletcher made the step up to join Wycombe Wanderers this week.

The teenage defender (pictured), who was a regular in Faulkner's Ambers side last term, has been given a dream chance to prove himself at League Two level – and has played a couple of games for Wycombe already.

"He probably played in about three quarters of our games last year," said proud Cheshunt boss Faulkner.

"I'm very pleased as a lot of clubs were after him, but Wycombe were the ones who showed a concrete interest in him by offering him a contract.

"He decided that option was probably the best, and it will be good for his education."

Fletcher has partnered former Tottenham Hotspur defender Gary Doherty at the heart of the Wycombe defence this summer – with Faulkner adding that the youngster had performed well and impressed.
