Clacton Skipper Happy With Progress

Tom Austin, captain of Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division club FC Clacton, believes his side are making encouraging progress during pre-season – but says he and his team-mates need to become more clinical.

The Seasiders have played two games so far – Saturday's 3-2 victory at Gas Recreation and Tuesday's unfortunate 2-1 defeat at Halstead Town.

And while the midweek result was disappointing, Austin (pictured) feels his side are shaping up nicely for the new Thurlow Nunn League season.

"Halstead were a good test for us because they're a young, fit side," said the Clacton captain.

"But we came through it well, in that respect.

"There were lots of positives and our training is definitely paying off.

"On a personal note, I feel much fitter.

"Tuesday night was my second 90 minutes in three days and, while I'm suffering a bit now, I do feel better.

"I wouldn't have been able to manage that this time last year."
