Ex-Cheltenham Youngster Stays With Cinderford

Keiran Thomas turned down a chance to join Gloucester City to continue his development at Calor League Division One South & West outfit Cinderford Town.

The fiercely competitive full-back finished last season at The Causeway after his release by Cheltenham Town after a two-year scholarship.

Thomas was one of the Robins youth team's top performers, but he missed on a professional deal due to the fact Mark Yates had two other contracted right-backs in Sido Jombati and Keith Lowe.

The teenager had an opportunity to step up two levels to the Conference North Tigers, but he wants to play a full season for his hometown club and then start what he hopes will be a climb back up the footballing ladder.

"Gloucester phoned me and made me an offer, but I want to play every game for a full season at Cinderford and see how it goes," Thomas said.

"I am confident I can still play higher and I felt I did well for Cinderford last season, but I am still only just starting out in competitive men's football and it will be good for me to play in this league.

"I don't think I would have played as regularly at Gloucester."

Thomas lives a five-minute walk from Cinderford's Causeway ground and he has started a new job in Lydney.

"I am putting floors down and moving around containers," he said.

"The plan is definitely to get back to full-time football, but this job brings in some money for now."
