Frecklington issues apology to Gainsborough Trinity fans after cup rout

Dave Frecklington issued an apology to Gainsborough Trinity fans after the Blues' FA Cup run was ended in brutal fashion by Slough Town.

Frecklington's side were smashed 6-0 at home by the Rebels in Saturday's first round tie in front of a crowd of 1,630 at the Northolme.

Slough, who play a level below the Blues in the Southern League Premier Division, could have even added a seventh late on but missed a penalty.

Rebels boss John Underwood lauded the display as his side's "best performance in seven years in the biggest match of our lives".

Meanwhile, Frecklington took to social media to apologise for the performance on one of the biggest days in the club's history.

"Apologies to all Gainsborough Trinity supporters for that today. Didn't turn up. These boys have been different class. Keep the Faith," said the former Lincoln United boss on Twitter.

Speaking after the game, Frecklington said: "We didn't turn up from minute one. I was worried about that during the week because the pressure was on us. We were favourites going into the game and it was a big crowd."
