Gateshead Agree Gillies Compensation

After several weeks of protracted negotiations, Conference Premier club Gateshead and Carlisle United have come to an agreement regarding the compensation package for Josh Gillies.

Gillies (pictured) put pen to paper with the Cumbrians a while ago and has played already played a couple of friendlies for his new club.

The 23-year-old was Gateshead's leading goalscorer last season with 15 goals from midfield and also created more goals than anyone else.

"it has taken us a little while to get there, longer than we would have liked, but I'm pleased we've avoided the need to go to a tribunal," said Gateshead chairman Graham Wood.

"The good thing is that it was all conducted very amicably and it was obviously just a difference of opinion which we've eventually resolved.

"Everyone is happy, presumably none more than the player himself, and we all wish Josh the very best in his new career at Carlisle."

Gateshead have been involved in three compensation deals for under 24 players this summer, for outgoing pair Gillies and Ryan Donaldson and signing Adam Boyes.

Donaldson moved to fellow Football Conference club Cambridge United while striker Boyes was brought in from relegated Barrow.
