Giles Named Interim Salisbury Coach

Mikey Harris, manager of Conference Premier club Salisbury City, has made his second back room staff appointment, bringing former club captain Chris Giles back to the club as a first team coach on an interim basis.

Giles (pictured) said: "So I have made the horrible decision to retire from football. I never recovered fully from my first operation although I am grateful for the effort which was made for my second operation. This has allowed me to be able to do what I am doing now.

"It is nice to give something back to the club and the fans for last season's help and for the support I have received since I have been here. I would also like to say thank you to the Board for their support. It will be an exciting transition into a very difficult league. We now have a new ambitious, young manager who has some fantastic ideas and I believe the club will be successful once again."

Harris reacted: "I am delighted that Chris is around to lend a hand. He has lots of experience at this level and his appointment means I can take my time to select the right assistant manager."

Earlier, Salisbury announced that Will Puddy has signed a one year extension to his contract. The goalkeeper made 40 appearances for The Whites and kept 12 clean sheets to help Salisbury City regain their Conference Premier status.

Puddy said: "I had a few offers from other clubs during the summer which was nice however I feel like we have something special here at Salisbury and I want to continue where we left off last season. It's exciting times at Salisbury, we have an ambitious young manager and I believe we can have another great season."

Manager Harris was pleased to secure the custodian's services for another year: "Will has a great work ethic and desire to succeed. He was very consistent last year and I believe he will improve further this season. He is another player who brings continuity going into the season, winning is a habit and we need to continue that from last year."
