Halstead Boss Happy With Summer Work

Mark Benterman, manager of Thurlow Nunn League Division One club Halstead Town, believes his side have started laying foundations for a successful season.

The Rosemary Lane outfit began pre-season training early and then kicked-off their friendlies with a 2-1 success against Stanway Rovers on Tuesday night.

Benterman admitted the result was irrelevant – but said it was heartening to see things his players had worked on in training pay off.

"Tuesday night was a great test for us, to see where we're at," said the Town boss.

"We've been training hard for weeks and it showed.

"Everything we'd been working on – like our shape, being hard to break down and scoring from set-pieces – came together.

"We're not getting carried away but it's satisfying seeing things we've worked on come off, even in glimpses."
