Harriers add former U's man to coaching staff

Kidderminster Harriers have confirmed the appointment to the club’s coaching staff of former Oxford United man Andy Whing as U23s Head Coach.

Birmingham-born Whing enjoyed a stellar career of almost 400 senior appearances as a player for the U’s, Coventry City, Brighton and others.

He’s spent the last two years as part of the coaching set-up at League 1 United as co-manager of their Youth Team.

Now, however, the 32-year-old has moved to take up the post of Head Coach of our U23s set up that sees a squad of players combining higher education with full-time training and a programme of friendly matches.

Already this season the squad have met the likes of Walsall, Peterborough United and Barnet as the programme continues to develop.

“I’ve known Andy for a number of years and this is a bit of a coup for us, make no mistake,” Chairman Colin Gordon said of the new arrival.

“He’s been coaching at a great club and a great level and he’s eager to take on the challenge here and really make the U23s project his own.

“It’s vital that all of our teams interconnect and work well together – we’ve seen that already with the likes of our U18s and U19s, but we really need the U23s to lead the way in that respect.”

Whing will work closely with first-team management and the Youth coaching set-up, and commenced his Harriers duties on Monday.
