Hockaday Looking Forward To Mackay Reunion

Conference Premier club Forest Green Rovers' most glamorous pre-season friendly of the summer takes place at the New Lawn this evening, with the visit of Premier League new boys Cardiff City (7.45pm).

Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay is planning to bring a strong squad to Nailsworth, meaning the likes of Craig Bellamy and City's new £8.5 million Danish international striker Andreas Cornelius could be in action.

It will be Cardiff's first friendly outing of 2013, having spent the last two weeks on a training camp in Switzerland, and Rovers boss Dave Hockaday (pictured) is looking forward to locking horns with his old friend Mackay for the second year running.

Hockaday said: "I was in charge of Watford's youth academy when Malky was a player there and he is a great lad.

"I know a lot of his staff there and I played with his assistant David Kerslake at Swindon, so I'm sure we'll chat long into the night after the game.

"But for 90 minutes I'll be trying that bit harder to beat them because they are mates, and I'm sure it will be the same for them.

"Malky knows we're not the type of team to kick them off the park, but he also knows from last year that we'll give them a real test on a good surface.

"I'm looking forward to it, my players are really looking forward to it and I would urge as many fans as possible to come along and see a Premier League team at the New Lawn."
