Hometown Herrera needed to leave Torquay

Robbie Herrera says he 'needed to move on' after parting company with Torquay United.

Long-serving Herrera, 47, has left the Gulls after serving the club as a player, youth coach, assistant and caretaker manager, and he said: "It's been a big chunk of my life.

"Obviously, Torquay is a club close to my heart and, as a hometown boy as it were, it was a dream to manage the team.

"It didn't last as long as I wanted - I want a bit more of it now, and whether that comes is another matter.

"Fair play to Geoff (general manager Geoff Harrop), he tried to help me out, and I understand that.

"But I thought the role they offered me wasn't quite what I was looking for, and I needed to move on.

"I've given 12 years' service as a player and coach, and it's a big decision to leave. But I wish the club all the best."
