Keates bemoans Dragons' missing fire

Dean Keates bemoaned his side's lack of a killer instinct in front of goal as Wrexham fought out a fifth draw in six games, but hailed the work rate and effort from his side.

The Dragons boss hit out at his players following Tuesday night's 0-0 draw at FC Halifax Town , stating too many were "going for the easy option" rather than taking on a shot themselves.

A share of the spoils at the Shay Stadium keeps Wrexham in sixth place in the National League and extends their unbeaten run to nine, yet Keates will know it should have been much better despite the Dragons sitting just three points off early leaders Macclesfield Town.

"I think frustrated, I think we were comfortable for long periods of the game, (played in) decent areas, but didn't make it count," said Keates. "As I said I thought we were comfortable for long periods in that game.

"It is frustrating, but we are not losing games. We need to find a goal or two from somewhere and maybe we are lacking a little bit of belief in front of goal

"I think there were a few times people not really taking on the opportunity to take on a shot, 20 yards out and they are going for the easier option of trying to slide someone in.

"It is not working for us, it is something we will work on over the next few days and all being well that will fall in to pace for the game on the weekend.

"It (a killer instinct) is something we need to work on. We will look back on it (the draw) like we do every game, and we will have a look at the opponents on the weekend and we will go from there.

"But I don't think it is (a lack of) hard work, I don't think you can question that. The fans that came tonight will have been happy with the performance the lads put in."
