Leek Boss Not Getting Carried Away

Lee Casswell, manager of Evo-Stik League Division One South club Leek Town, declared himself satisfied with the scoreline after his side beat League One outfit Crewe Alexandra on Friday at Harrison Park - but played down the result, not wanting to get too excited at this stage of pre-season.

It was the Blues' first friendly fixture of the summer while Crewe were looking to extend on the three victories they had already racked up in their pre-season programme.

After the game, Casswell (pictured) commented: "Although it was great to win against a Football League side it was more about getting the lads playing time on the pitch.

"We told the players to pressurise the ball and we had some success with it – the trialists did well and so did the old brigade in sweltering conditions that sapped the strength.

"Crewe created a few chances during the game but Matt Bradbury and Andy Bratt put their bodies on the line to block late efforts inside the box.

"However, we're not getting carried away at this stage of pre-season but things aren't looking too bad so far."
