Lions' Chance to Shine

Put yourselves in the shop window – that's the advice from skipper Mark Bower before Conference North club Guiseley's prestige friendly against Bradford City.

Phil Parkinson's promoted Bantams head for Nethermoor on Saturday for the opening fixture of pre-season and a bumper crowd is on the cards.

Bower (pictured) is relishing the latest clash with his old club, where he made over 250 appearances before leaving four years ago.

And he sees it as a great incentive for some of Guiseley's emerging talents to get noticed against top professionals.

Bradford's attack will be led by James Hanson and Nahki Wells, two players who were involved with the Whites before they made the grade. And Bower believes some of his team-mates are capable of following them up the football ladder.

He said: "You've only got to look at how well they have both done. James Hanson played here and Nahki was training with Guiseley as well.

"I also played with Jamie Vardy a couple of years ago at Halifax and now he's a Championship player.

"You can find these diamonds at this level and there are definitely one or two in our side – not that I'm going to give any names away!

"Games like this are a great opportunity for them to showcase their talent in front of a top league manager and a club on the up. You never know if you might get noticed."
