Lobsters Looking Good, Says Maher

Redhill are going into their debut Ryman League Division One South season fitter and stronger than ever, according to manager Mike Maher.

Early last season the Lobsters drew with Dorking Wanderers in a Sussex County League encounter, but this week Maher's side lined up against their Surrey counterparts again - triumphing 3-1.

And, in a match that threatened to boil over on several occasions, Maher's team looked the more composed with goals coming from new signing Richmond Kissi (pictured), Sam Robinson, and Gavin Gordon.

"We have worked a hell of a lot on our strength and conditioning, they got frustrated they couldn't knock us off the ball and be physical," Maher said.

"There was a few fouls, a few of our boys went in over the top but the one there in the second half on Bradley Duke, that was uncalled for. The ball had gone on ten yards. Even Marc White said there was no need. His shin is up in a lump and he has a cut the shape of two studs.

"But other than that I think we were the stronger team but that is something we have put emphasis on. Last year when we played Wanderers, last August, it was a 50/50 game in terms of muscle whereas you can see the difference this year we are a hell of a lot more conditioned and stronger.

"We did have a lot of possession of the ball, we played some really good football at times, and the three goals we scored were really good."
