Millers Bring In Goalkeeping Coach

Justin Gardner, manager of Ryman League Division One North club Aveley, has now added a goalkeeping coach to his backroom staff.

Aleksandar (Alex) Cancar has been working with the club during their pre-season training for the last fortnight and Gardner (pictured) is delighted to add the Croatian born Cancar to his ranks as he continues to build his team on and off the pitch.

The Millers' new goalkeeping coach had a successful playing career having played for the likes of Nurnberg in the German Bundesliga in the early nineties as well playing for Red Star Belgrade between 1988 and 1991, a period that saw Red Star win the European Cup in the 1990/91 season.

After finishing his playing carreer in England with spells at Dagenham & Redbridge and finally at FC Grace Athletic, Cancar turned to coaching and now has a UEFA B coaching badge and is currently working towards his UEFA A badges.

Since 2004 Cancar has gained extensive coaching experience working for the likes of Charlton Athletic, Barnet and Grays Athletic in the UK, as well as working for FC Velez Mostar in Bosnia and former club Red Star Belgrade.

With that sort of experience behind him, Gardner understandably is delighted to have brought Cancar onto his coaching team.

The Millers boss said: "I'm really pleased to finally get a goalkeeping coach on board as we didn't have one last season.

"Alex joined a few weeks ago and I've been watching how he gets on with the goalkeepers we have here and I'm delighted to have agreed terms with him.

"He's done a great job so far and Jack (Giddens) and the other goalies we have training with us at the club are really happy with him."
