Moors on the Money - Solihull name new boss

Solihull Moors have announced the appointment of Richard Money as their First Team Manager.

Money will start immediately and his first game in charge will be this Saturday's home match against Hartlepool United. He will take training this evening.

The vastly experienced Money was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk and he began his playing career at Scunthorpe United as a defender. He later turned out for Liverpool, Luton, Portsmouth and Fulham, among others, during the 1970s and 1980s.

Money became caretaker player/manager of Scunthorpe at the end of his playing career. He was later Youth Coach at Aston Villa before returning four years later to Scunthorpe to take the manager's role. He became coach at Nottingham Forest during their successful return to the premiership and Europe in the 1990s before leaving with manager Frank Clark to coach at Manchester City. He also had very successful spells as both Academy Director and First Team Coach at Coventry City.

After a lengthy spell coaching abroad he returned to England to become manager of Walsall guiding them to the League Two title in the 2006–07 season, with the club conceding just 34 goals over 46 games. In 2008, he took on the role of Academy Director at Newcastle United.

His extensive experience of the National League started in 2009, with Luton Town who finished the season in second place, losing to York City in the play-off semi-final. He left the club third in the league and with the most successful win ratio of any Luton Town manager.

He then joined Cambridge United as head coach, and in his first full full season in charge they were unbeaten after the first 16 games of the Conference season. Cambridge remained in the top two for the remainder of the season – winning the FA Trophy along the way. Money then led the club to promotion via the play-offs, a 2–1 victory over Gateshead at Wembley securing a return to the Football League after a nine-year absence.

Director of Football, Mark Fogarty knows the new manager well having worked with him at Coventry City;

"I am absolutely delighted that we have attracted manager with the record and profile of Richard Money. He is exactly what we need right now at Moors and having worked with him, I can vouch for his formidable skills as a coach. I really look forward to teaming up with him again."
