New Harrogate striker Beck says York pulled out of deal

Striker Mark Beck admitted that York City had pulled out of his proposed move to Bootham Crescent last month.

The 23-year-old former Carlisle United and Yeovil Town marksman therefore instead remained with their National League North rivals Darlington, until joining promotion-hopefuls Harrogate Town for an undisclosed fee earlier this week.

Beck struck 18 goals in 41 games for Darlington under current York manager Martin Gray last season.

"He [Gray] joined [York] on the Sunday," Beck told BBC Radio York. "He was ringing me up and I was going to go [to York], but there were a few complications.

"Obviously I'm out injured at the minute - and I still am now," he added. "So they [York] didn't want to take that risk and it didn't happen in the end."
