No Burscough Overhaul Needed

Derek Goulding, manager of Evo-Stik League Division One North club Burscough, insists that his Burscough squad does not require major surgery this summer – as the Linnets prepare to begin their pre-season friendly schedule.

Burscough welcome Conference North side Vauxhall Motors to Victoria Park on Saturday, as they step up their preparations for the new campaign.

Boss Goulding (pictured) expects to have a full-strength side to choose from, with goalkeeper Tim Horn due to return from Russia, where he has been on duty at the World University Games this week.

Other than that, there are unlikely to be major changes. Midfielder David Lynch has moved on, but Goulding has been able to retain the rest of his squad, and intends to use the Greens' five friendly fixtures to look at one or two trialists.

"At this stage, it is still relatively early in pre-season," he said.

"Lots of clubs are going out and bringing in a lot of players, but for us we don't think we need to be doing too much.

"I was happy with what all the lads gave me last season, so I can't really complain.

"We want to build on what we have, not rip it up and start again.

"Obviously there are one or two that I would like to bring in, and hopefully we can have a look in some of the friendly matches."
