Outgoing York boss could make quick management return

Former York City supremo Gary Mills could find an immediate way back into management just days after being dismissed at Bootham Crescent.

The 55-year-old is already been linked with a possible return to former club Gateshead after their boss Neil Aspin was appointed by League Two strugglers Port Vale, where he previously spent a decade as a player.

Two-time FA Trophy winner Mills already has a history of returning to former clubs having twice managed both York and Tamworth.

He was originally appointed at Gateshead in September 2013, that six months after departing York the first time; and immediately led them to third place finish in the Conference and an eventual play-off final defeat to Cambridge United, before later moving to Wrexham.

"We're looking for somebody who can galvanize the team and can help us push for promotion," Gateshead chairman Richard Bennett told the North East Football Podcast. "I want somebody ambitious to share the ambition that I have. I'm looking for somebody to take us into those play-off positions.'
