Simpson to Experiment with Imps side

Gary Simpson, manager of Conference Premier club Lincoln City, is ready to experiment with his new-look side as they prepare to begin their pre-season campaign.

The Imps travel to city neighbours Lincoln United this weekend in what is their first official friendly of the summer.

It will be the first time fans will see Simpson's new signings in action as they whittle down the days to their Conference opener at Woking on August 10.

And Imps boss Simpson (pictured) says he is likely to use different sides in each half as he confirmed a number of trialists would also figure.

"Pre-season is all about fitness and getting the message across to the players about how you are trying to play," he said.

"We'll be trying different things too because I've always said throwing your best players into the same 11, doesn't always make for the best team.

"So we'll have a look, we'll try a few things and everybody will get a run-out – we will have the numbers to do it.

"There will be a few trialists in there, I suspect, because I am still looking for players in a couple of areas.

"But I am looking forward to it as are the players.

"I know the fans will be too because this will be the first time they get to see the signings we have made."
