Sweetman Disappointed at Rapley Exit

Holyport boss Derek Sweetman admits midfielder Dan Rapley will be difficult to replace after the player left the club to join Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division rivals Binfield.

After the player held close season talks with a view to joining Flackwell Heath, Sweetman thought he had a 'gentleman's agreement' that Rapley would stay at Holyport.

But an 11th hour call from Binfield's No.2 Roger Herridge convinced Rapley to sign for the club.

Rapley started at Holyport in 2006 and did not take long to show his potential. He bagged a hat-trick in his second game against Chalfont Wasps and quickly progressed into the first team.

Throughout his seven seasons at the club Rapley made 222 appearances, scoring 78 goals.

"We're disappointed," said Sweetman (pictured).

"But I understand his reasons for leaving and that he wants to test himself at another club.

"He's going to be difficult to replace, but we do have players capable of stepping into his shoes.

"We also have three or four new players at training and they will come in and soften the blow."
