Two More Signings Would Suit Bridges Boss

Paul Faili, manager of Ryman League Division One South club Three Bridges, believes he is just two signings away from his ideal squad.

The Bridges manager (pictured) set out to ensure his side has more strength in depth for the new season after they struggled with a paper-thin squad in their debut Ryman League campaign – finishing second to bottom of Division One South.

However, despite missing several first-team players, including injured keeper Jess Grimstone, Faili's side drew 3-3 with Combined Counties League side South Park in a friendly on Saturday.

And Faili was not too disappointed with the draw against lower league opposition, having watched South Park demolish Ryman side Redhill 5-0 the previous week.

"It was a decent enough first-half performance from us," Faili said. "I was quite pleased. There were some decent youngsters."

Former Broadbridge Heath player James Drinkwater looked comfortable at right-back while ex-Chipstead keeper Martin Grant played the whole 90 minutes, with Grimstone still facing some time on the sidelines before he is back in action.

However, it was young pair, central midfielder Alex Parson and centre-back Lewis Forsdyke, who have impressed Faili during pre-season.

"Alex is our posh centre-mid – the opposite of Lee Carney," Faili joked of his captain Carney.

"We have found two players, three with James Drinkwater, who are definitely now first-team players in Alex, Lewis and then James. And then to be fair it is a case of two more players and then my squad is sorted."

And with a year's experience in the Ryman League, Faili is confident his squad has what it takes to compete.

"We know what we are facing this year; we know exactly what we are facing," he said.

"I'm actually quite pleased with the whole state of affairs at the moment. I'm not panicking about anything.

"Three, four, five weeks ago we probably looked slightly more bare than we should have done but you don't panic over it."
