Former Newcastle United winger Alan O'Brien has left Vanarama National League South club Hungerford Town by mutual consent.

O'Brien made nine appearances for the Magpies in 2006/07, before leaving St James Park to join Scottish club Hibernian at the end of that season.

Following spells with Swindon Town, Yeovil Town and Gateshead, O'Brien joined Hungerford Town ahead of the 2012/13 season, making his debut in a 2-1 win at Bridgwater Town on the opening day of the campaign.

The winger played a big part in the Crusaders rise up the non-league pyramid, helping them to two promotions in his four-year stay at Bulpit Lane.

However he has now left the club by mutual consent after failing to agree contract terms with manager Bobby Wilkinson.

Wilkinson said "Unfortunately we have had to let Alan go today after failing to agree a contract with him. Alan has given so much to the club and on behalf of everyone, I want to wish him well on his next chapter. My message to him, would be, do what you want to do, not what others persuade you to do."
