Magnay commits to Pools

Defender Carl Magnay has put pen to paper on a new contract and committed his future to Vanarama National League new-boys Hartlepool United.

Magnay joined Pools at the start of the 2015/16 season and has made fifty one appearances for the Victoria Park club.

He missed a large portion of last season with a cruciate ligament injury, as Pools fought an unsuccessful battle against relegation from SkyBet League Two.

The former Grimsby Town defender's contract ran out at the end of the season, but after meeting with new Pools boss Craig Harrison he has committed his future to the club.

Magnay has National League experience after spending time in non-league's top tier with Grimsby during the 2014/15 season.

He began his career with Chelsea, spending time on loan at MK Dons and Northampton Town during his time at Stamford Bridge.

After leaving the Blues in 2012 he joined hometown club Gateshead, spending two years at the International Stadium before joining Grimsby Town.

Getting Magnay to stay at Victoria Park is the latest boost for Pools boss Harrison, coming just hours after former Newcastle United and Cambridge United forward Ryan Donaldson completed a move back to his native North-East.
