Chester Bring In Kay

Conference Premier club Chester have confirmed the signing of Michael Kay.

The former England under-17 international, who can play right back or centre back, joins the Blues on a one year deal and becomes the club's 12th signing of the summer.

After starting his career at Sunderland, Kay (pictured) regularly captained the reserve side and made his only professional appearance for the club against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup fourth round replay in 2009.

In September 2010, Kay joined Gateshead on an initial one month loan, scoring a header on his debut against Mansfield Town. His performances for the club saw the loan extended an additional 28 days before he joined Tranmere Rovers, again on loan, on 6 January 2011, making his debut two days later against Walsall.

Kay went on to make 22 appearances for Rovers in his loan spell, scoring in the club's 4-0 victory over Exeter in April 2011. At the end of the loan spell he was offered a contract with Tranmere that was accepted and he went on to make an additional 12 appearances in the two years since.

On the signing, manager Neil Young said: "Michael is a player we have been speaking to from the start of our recruitment process and I'm really happy that he has chose to come and join us. He comes with good experience from both Sunderland and Tranmere Rovers and has a great hunger to do well here and is another good signing for the club."
