Guildford Recruit Three More

Dean Thomas, manager of Calor League Division One South & West club Guildford City, has added a further three players to his squad as the club rebuild in preparation for the forthcoming season.

Thomas is especially pleased to be able to bring Ryan Bernard, Nathan Nelson and Ben Walshe to the club, feeling that their experience will be a major asset.

Bernard is a 6ft 3ins central defender who is returning to the game after a year away. He is a Bury FC academy product who has played for a number of clubs including Ramsgate and Hastings United. More recently he featured at Windsor & Eton, Beaconsfield SYCOB and Chesham United.

Nelson is an imposing central midfield player who has joined the club from Harrow Borough, after a spell in the Combined Counties League with Cove. He is also an experienced central defender.

Walshe (pictured), 30, is a vastly experienced midfield player who joins the club from St Ives Town. Originally starting his career at Queens Park Rangers, he went on to make two first team appearances before moving to St Albans City for the first of three spells.

His other clubs include Aldershot Town (loan), Fisher Athletic, Richmond (Australia) and Doveton (Australia). He also appeared in the Sky TV series "Dream Team". A lively character on and off the pitch, he will do wonders for team morale.

The Saturday just gone also saw the club hold an open trial. With squad places up for grabs, some 17 hopefuls came under the gaze of Thomas and his coaching staff. Thomas was pleasantly surprised at the talent on view, and at the trial's conclusion a handful of players were invited back for training.
