Margate Secure Quartet

Ryman League Premier Division club Margate have announced the signing of four more players for the 2013/14 season.

Impressive trialist, 21-year-old Elliott Cox, put pen to paper after Saturday's friendly at Hythe Town. Cox started his career as a junior with Queens Park Rangers at the age of nine and was handed a one year professional contract after graduating through their Academy set-up in the summer of 2010.

He spent the last couple of months of the following season on loan at Histon and, after his release from Loftus Road, rejoined the Cambridgeshire side ahead of the 2011/12 campaign. He then moved to Hastings United 12 months later after an impressive pre-season trial period, during which he was chiefly employed as a right back, despite being more adept in an attacking role. He was in the Hastings side that lost at The Riverside Stadium to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup Third Round back in January of this year.

Speaking after Tuesday night's draw at Whitstable Town in which he scored his first goal for the club, he said: "It was time for a new challenge and in the short time I have been with the Margate boys they have made me feel extremely welcome and I get on really well with everyone including Simon and Craig so it feels very much like the right move for me. With the squad that is being assembled I see no reason why we shouldn't be fighting for promotion this season, automatically or via the play-offs."

Another new player this season will be 16-year-old George Whitlock, who is delighted to be signing for the club. He said: "Margate is a great club and it is a fantastic move for me and I am really looking forward to the season." Whitlock spent the end of last season at Essex Senior League side Clapton, and also had a brief spell at Leyton Orient.

Versatile left-sided player Ryan Dolby has also pledged his future to the club for another campaign. The 23-year-old originally signed for the club in August 2012 and had a successful run in the side at left-back towards the end of last season. Previously he had ended the 2011/12 season with Welling United in the Conference South having made the switch from nearby Bromley and had a couple of spells with both clubs.

On re-signing, he said: "It's fantastic to be staying, I really think it's a great club from the management to the fans, everyone has always been so encouraging and it is a great place to play football. I heard rumours that I was going elsewhere but there was only one place I wanted to be this season and I'm certain we can push ourselves that little bit harder to make sure we are there or there abouts at the end of the season."

Centre-half Joe Vines (pictured) will also play his football at Hartsdown Park this season. Having joined the club in February from Cray Wanderers he went on to make nine first team appearances for the Gate. The 32-year-old has also played for Cray Wanderers, Bromley, Crawley, Lewes, AFC Wimbledon, Tooting & Mitcham, Sittingbourne and Maidstone United during his career.
