Padiham Move For Whyte

Evo-Stik League Division One North newcomers Padiham have moved quickly to snap up centre-forward Rob Whyte.

Whyte has committed himself to Padiham for the upcoming season, and is looking forward to working under Steve Wilkes for the second time in his football career. Whyte first played under Wilkes at Runcorn Linnets and captained the side.

Whyte (pictured) said: "I am really looking forward to working under Wilkesy and Cunny. Wilkes is one of the best man managers I have worked with and Cunny was my captain at Linnets until his move to Colne FC, and we formed a very good friendship.

"I know Wilkes will get the best out of me and I am looking forward to the challenge of the Evo-Stik League and competing for a place in the attacking line-up that proved to be one of the most feared last season."

Wilkes said: "This is a great capture for Padiham FC. Rob will bring a new dimension to the squad, he has bags of potential and when fully fit there is not many better at what he does on the field, I am delighted he has committed himself to us after a number of clubs were speaking to him.

"We have a great squad of players that created some history last season and we need players that will fit into the vision we have as a group and Rob is the ideal fit, great attitude and professionalism backed up by undoubted talent."

Whyte signed for Runcorn Town from local rivals Runcorn Linnets in December 2012, ironically making his debut against Linnets on Boxing Day.

He played almost 200 games in two spells for Linnets, scoring 63 goals, and was their leading scorer last season. This makes him the all-time appearance and goalscorer record holder at the club.

He has also played for St Helens Town and Prescot Cables.
