St Ives Bring In Sought-After Meechan

Tom Meechan has put pen to paper to sign for Calor League Division One Central newcomers St Ives Town for the 2013/14 season.

Meechan, 22, has been training with the Saints in the last two weeks and has impressed those watching on.

Although there was much interest from Cambridge City and Royston Town, Meechan (pictured) revealed why he has made the move to Westwood Road: "I wanted to play at a higher level and felt that St Ives was the right club to go to," he said.

"I have been very impressed with the club already and it looks like the club is run properly too. It looks like there is a great bunch of lads here and I am looking forward to getting the season underway now."

Joint manager Jez Hall added: "(I'm) pleased to have signed Tom ahead of other teams. He has a great scoring record in the Kershaw and if he hadn't been at Uni he would probably be playing higher. He has come from the same league we got Scott Fielding and Liam Kennett from, so if he can do as well as those two we will be happy. He could be a real find."

Saints club secretary Simon Clark said: "Tom is a good lad and we had someone go and watch him last season and we were impressed."
