U's Borrow Fleetwood Keeper Maxwell

Conference Premier club Cambridge United have signed Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Chris Maxwell on a loan deal until January 2014.

Originally signed by Wrexham at the age of 10, Maxwell (pictured) made 74 appearances for the Dragons before moving to the newly promoted Cod Army in 2012.

Maxwell, now 22, returned to Wrexham for a loan spell in January of this year, making a further 17 starts. During this time, Maxwell played in two Wembley finals - picking up an FA Trophy winners' medal, but later losing out to Welsh neighbours Newport County in the Conference play-off final.

Capped at numerous international levels for Wales, Maxwell boasts an impressive 16 caps at under-21 level.

Director of Football Jez George remarked: "We have been extremely thorough in the process of identifying goalkeepers from clubs at every level that are available for loan and those that are free agents.

"In agreeing a long term loan for Chris we have a goalkeeper of undoubted ability and a proven track record in this league over a number of games. He is highly rated and we are absolutely delighted to have acquired his services at least until the January transfer window.

"We are very grateful to Graham Alexander and Steve Curwood at Fleetwood for allowing this to happen."

Maxwell will wear the number 1 shirt.
