Wright Departs Forest Green

Striker Ben Wright has been released from his contract at Conference Premier club Forest Green Rovers by mutual consent.

The 24-year-old (pictured) becomes a free agent just over 12 months after signing for Rovers from Braintree Town on a two-year-deal.

Manager David Hockaday said: "We have cancelled Ben's contract by mutual consent.

"Ben recognised he was not guaranteed a first team place and he wanted to go somewhere where he had a better chance of playing regularly.

"The club thanks Ben for all his efforts, he's a top lad and we wish him all the best for the future."

Wright arrived at Forest Green in May 2012 and made a total of ten starts for Rovers and 18 appearances in all - scoring three times.

But an injury in October last year kept Wright sidelined until coming on as an 86th minute substitute against Gateshead in mid-February.

Finding himself short of match fitness and back in the pecking order, the dead-ball specialist went on loan to former club Braintree Town for the final five weeks of last season.
