Yeltz Make a Host of Signings

Evo-Stik League Division One South club Halesowen Town have announced a host of new signings for the 2013/14 season, with a mixture of experience, up-and-coming players, along with a few locally known names.

These signings are on top of those which have already committed themselves to the first team from last season's squad.

Incoming are Sam Pearson (goalkeeper), Matthew Martin (midfielder), Neil Mackenzie (midfielder), Chris Lait (midfielder), Steve Weaver, Martyn Allard (defender), Sam Whitehurst (striker) and Nigel Penney (striker).

Sam Pearson is a young goalkeeper who has spent the past few seasons with Dudley Sports, playing regularly for the first team, and will provide competition for the number one spot.

Incoming from Tipton Town is midfielder Matthew Martin, who had a successful season. He has previously played for Gornal Athletic, where he won a league and cup double.

Well known and locally based midfielder Neil Mackenzie (pictured) has joined forces with the Yeltz after recent spells with St Neots Town and Evesham United. Prior to this, he had a great deal of experience playing at Football League level with the likes of Stoke City, Mansfield Town and Macclesfield Town, as well as a prolonged spell at Tamworth.

Also arriving is Chris Lait, signed from newly promoted Stratford Town. He is an exciting prospect who plays in midfield and knows where the goal is, netting many times in Stratford's promotion season.

Striker Steve Weaver has joined from Lye Town, where he has had an incredible goal scoring season with the Flyers, with the side narrowly missing out on promotion from the West Midlands (Regional) League.

Defender Martyn Allard is an exciting prospect who has been part of the Wolves academy in recent seasons, returning to football for the 2013/14 season.

Sam Whitehurst joins the club from Stoke City. He has spent three years with the Premier League side after being signed from Eccleshall Eagles. He was seen by Leicester City playing for Eccleshall in pre-season, and then later played for Leicester against Stoke City, scoring two and making three before being snapped up by the Potters.

Nigel Penney is an ex-Tipton Town striker who is a young hungry player with raw fast pace. He was previously with Tipton Town Reserves, and also has been at Blackheath, where he was a cup winner.
