GEORGE`S BOYS ARE SLOWLY GETTING IT TOGETHER 16/12/2004
Darren George, manager of Eastway Essex Senior League club Bowers & Pitsea, confirmed to www.nonleaguedaily.com that: "It is exciting times for our club and with three big matches in succession over the Christmas and New Year period, we will be using them as a benchmark to monitor the progress made so far."
Bowers’ clash with highly-placed Enfield Town at the Len Salmon Stadium at the weekend is followed by a home tie against Southern League Division One East side Tilbury in the Essex & Thameside Trophy in midweek before visiting Enfield Town for the return league encounter on January 3rd.
Then, in the New Year, the club embark on a full programme of league and cup
action that includes a quarter-final tie in the Essex Senior Cup, and home and away ties against Sawbridgeworth Town at the quarter-final stage after qualification from the Eastway Essex Senior League Cup group stage.
George (pictured), a successful team manager with the Essex County representative side at Intermediate level before taking the reigns of first-team manager at the merged club just over two months ago, said: "Slowly but surely we are starting to get our act together and playing a brand of free-flowing football.
"We are unbeaten in four games and have suffered just one defeat in the last twelve competitive outings."
However, George is mindful of the fact that in the last couple of games " Our final ball has not been of the quality required” and the team will be working on this accordingly.
This mainly referred to the fact that in last Saturday's home league match with Eton
Manor Bowers had much of the possession and after making allowances for the
inspired performance of the visiting goalkeeper, should have improved on a 1-1 scoreline after taking the lead through Daniel Wile in the 44th minute.
Bowers name change from Bowers United for the start of the 2004/05 campaign was in a bid to more closely identify with their local community and look to seek better sponsorship opportunities.
George after a successful playing career with Essex Intermediate League side Rayleigh Town, relishes the challenge of taking the club to the next level and with wins over Wivenhoe Town and Maldon Town in Essex Senior Cup games so far has
confirmed that they are quite capable of competing with sides from a higher level in the Pyramid.
"Wins against opponents from the Southern League, as was the case in the earlier rounds, has given us a great confidence, and something definite to build on."
