EAST THURROCK TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE
05/03/2005
East Thurrock United took advantage of Fisher Athletic, Uxbridge and Maldon Town being inactive due to the weather on Saturday to move five points clear at the top of the Southern League Division One East table.

The Essex side beat Berkhamsted Town 5-3 but found themselves two-down before they took coomand.

Ben Porter and Leon Hibbert gave Berko their two-goal lead by the 13th minute. Vinnie John pulled one back 4 minutes later and Gary Dixon equalised 4 minutes before half time.

John (pictured) scored his second to make it 3-2 on 62 minutes but back came Berko to level through Porter again, this time from the penalty spot.

But East Thurrock have a powerful attack and recent recruit Sammy Winston made it 4-3 with 10 minutes to go and Lee Burns added a fifth 5 minutes later.

Barking & East Ham United and Barton Rovers were the only others from the top six to play and both won.

Barking beat Essex neighbours Aveley 2-1, thanks to a brace from Warren Haughton (pictured) in the 66th and 70th minutes after Dwayne Plummer had given the visitors a 14th minute lead, while Barton won by the odd goal in five at Wingate & Finchley.

Craig Ellis gave Wingate an 8th minute lead and Dean Williams made it 2-0 on 27 minutes.

Top scorer Paul Barnes pulled one back for Rovers 8 minutes later but they had to wait until the 73rd minute for the equaliser through Richard Pringle and won it 15 minutes from time through Danny Kennoy.

Bottom-markers Tilbury were demolished at Meadow Park by Boreham Wood, whose Chris Bangura and Leon Archer both bagged braces to make it 4-0 before half time.

John Purches pulled one back for the Dockers on 70 minutes but James Bunn and Spencer Knight added further goals for Wood in the 72nd and 84th minutes.

Mark Burfoot also bagged a brace for Leighton Town in their 2-1 home win over Chatham Town, whose Darren Adams had equalised on 80 minutes before Burfoot’s injury time winner, and Steve Hafner also left it late as he struck 2 minutes from time at Waltham Forest to earn Dartford all three points.
