GARLAND JOINS MANAGEMENT TEAM AT CROYDON ATHLETIC 12/06/2005
Ryman League Division One club Croydon Athletic have announced that former Bromley and Dulwich Hamlet manager Dave Garland has agreed to join as first-team coach with immediate effect.
This appointment has been made following a review of the management team at the end of 2004/05.
Jeff Evans, who held the position last season, has left the club by mutual consent, as has goalkeeping coach Danny Rose, who has had to stand down because of other commitments.
In addition to Garland’s appointment, Dave Hyatt, who was number two goalkeeper last term, has joined the management team as goalkeeping coach
Rams chief sxecutive Dean Fisher said: “I am delighted that Dave Garland has agreed to join us. He comes to us with a wealth of experience having worked in both the professional and non-League game at Crystal Palace, Dulwich Hamlet, Whyteleafe and lastly Croydon and I am delighted to have secured his services.
“At the end of last season, the chairman and I sat down with manager Hayden Bird and discussed the season gone and the forthcoming campaign, and we all felt that a fresh face was needed. Dave was always our number one target and following talks we were delighted when he agreed to join us. He is as pleased as we are about the appointment and cannot wait to start work with the players when they report back for pre-season training in July. Dave is currently on holiday in Barbados charging his batteries and preparing for the new season. Following his return I am sure he and Hayden will be busy planning the new campaign.
“With Danny Rose also leaving the team, Hayden has moved swiftly to appoint his successor and I am delighted that Dave Hyatt has assumed the responsibility of goalkeeping coach. We feel that we now have a strong management team in place with Hayden, Peter, Dave, Dave and Mick and are all looking forward to the forthcoming campaign. I would like to take this opportunity of thanking Jeff and Danny for their services to the club and wish them well for the future and wish the new management team the best of luck for season 2005/06.”
Hayden Bird (pictured) said: “We all see Dave’s appointment as a major step forward. In appointing Dave, Croydon Athletic have invested in an excellent coach with a wealth of experience. In liason with the chairman and the chief executive, it is my job to build as good a team as possible both on and off the pitch. The introduction of Dave Garland clearly signals our intent to move forward.
“With Danny Rose being unable to offer the commitment we were looking for, appointing Dave Hyatt is an obvious choice. Although capable of still playing, moving onto the coaching staff was a natural progression for Dave. We are pleased he has accepted a fresh challenge.
“On a personal note, I would like to thank Jeff and Danny for their work at Croydon Athletic. I consider both to be friends, who did an excellent job.
“In planning for the forthcoming campaign, Dean and I felt changes needed to be made. We are delighted with the new look management structure and although I would not like to make predictions, it is fair to say we are all looking forward to the new season.”
