FORMER BLUEBIRDS ASSIST OLD BOYS 16/06/2005
Former Barrow favourite Neil Morton has joined the coaching team at Moore & Co Solicitors North West Counties League club Holker Old Boys.
Morton, who in five years at Holker Street made 159 appearances and scored 59 goals, will help in the coaching of the club’s senior first team and its new under-18s side.
Morton, 36, also appeared in the colours of Lancaster City, Morecambe, Altrincham, Wigan, Chester, Northwich Victoria and Crewe.
He will be joined by another new addition to the Holker coaching ranks, Lee O’Keeffe, who also played for the Bluebirds.
Both will coach alongside first-team manager Derek Birrell and under-18s managers Mark Bamber and Derek Smith.
Mark Hetherington will continue to play a role with the coaching of the under-18s, but will also now focus now on the club’s under-13s side, managed by Steve Murray. The under-16s will be managed by ex-Kendal Town player Lee Bowen.
The new under-18s side, who will play next season in the North West Alliance League, was set-up to allow the highly successful under-16s team to continue as a team.
Holker chairman Steve Livingstone said: “We had a good chat with all the senior coaching staff and managers at the club and have agreed a way forward for next season.
“It is important that, to maximise the talent we have in the senior and junior sections and also attract the type of quality of player we want at the club, we have the best people off the pitch as well.”
