NEW PEACOCKS` BOSS BY WEDNESDAY 24/10/2005
Taunton Town are hoping to have a new manager in place before next Wednesday's home Southern League Division One West match against Stourport Swifts.
The Peacocks are planning to interview four candidates for the job on Monday.
Club chairman Tom Harris said the club had received ten applications for the job created by former manager Peter Beadle's departure to Newport County.
Harris does not expect the new boss to be Peacock's FA Vase winning captain Paul West (pictured) or the current caretaker-manager Jason Heath . The chairman is not ruling out considering late applicants before Monday's interviews.
"We have had a good standard of applicants including an ex-international with a lot of experience in the old first division, " said Harris.
"We have whittled the applications down to four candidates, two of whom are involved with clubs as managers. It would be good to come to an agreement with the successful applicant after the interviews, so we can bring in the new manager before Wednesday's match."
West, manager of Toolstation Western League side Wellington, was not among the applicants, and Harris said as the former centre half is committed to Wellington, Taunton do want to "disturb that".
"I have a lot of time for Paul and I have no doubt Paul has the ability to be a top manager, " said Harris. "Maybe the job has come too soon in his managerial career. He needs to cut his teeth as a manager and will benefit from a couple of years in management."
Heath, one of Taunton's midfielders, will continue as caretaker-manager as long as the club wants. He is hoping to make a career as a full-time fireman and is not expected to be a candidate for the manager's job on a long-term basis.
Taunton are still keen to appoint a manager from the Bristol area.
"In the Southern League most of the travelling is on the M5 corridor and it is handy to pick players up on route."
