CHORLEY APPROACH DOUBLE FIGURES IN `KEEPERS 20/11/2006
Veteran Mark Thornley became UniBond League Division One club Chorley’s ninth goalkeeper of a troubled season.
Thornley, now 41, has been playing locally for West Lancs League side Kirkham & Wesham after a distinguished career that has taken in stops at Alfreton Town, Belper Town, Sutton Town, Stafford Rangers, Fleetwood Town, Morecambe, Lancaster City, Barrow and Kendal Town
He follows in the footsteps of Mark Threlfall, Phil Priestley, Mike Allison, Ryan Platt, Dave Fish, Brett Walker and Mark Canning whilst outfield player James Quadrio also went between the sticks for 28 minutes against Buxton on 9th September after Phil Priestley had been carried off.
Busy boss Gerry Luczka has also brought in midfielder John Osbourne from Kendal, central defender Steve Williams and midfielder James Sheppard.
Williams signs from Charnock Richard and is the half brother of former Magpies player Damian Corcoran. Sheppard (pictured above) has joined on loan from league rivals Bamber Bridge.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old defender or midfielder James Mullineux (pictured) has signed a playing contract with the club.
Luczka, who wrapped up the deal with chairman Ken Wright, said: "James is a promising player who shows great maturity for his age. He has bravery and ability and is cool under pressure. He has done really well for us and he has it in him to go far in the game."
Mullineux, who made his debut in 2005 just before his 17th birthday, helped Lancashire FA win the Northern Counties Under-18 Cup last season, picking up the LFA Under-18's player of the year award in the process.
He has made forty first-team appearances the club since his debut, winning numerous man of the match awards in the process.
