BILEY QUITS BONES
21/05/2007
Former Cambridge United and Luton favourite Alan Biley is keen to get back into football "as soon as possible" after resigning as manager of British Gas Business Southern League Division One Midlands club Rothwell Town.

The departing boss cited "financial restrictions and the confrontation of rumours about new managers" as the reasons for his surprise decision.

Biley (pictured), who had previously had two spells as assistant-boss at neighbouring Kettering Town, arrived at Cecil Street to replace Dave Williams last season.

And his impact was impressive as Rothwell made a late surge for the play-offs, only to be denied in the last couple of weeks of the campaign.

Biley insisted leaving the club was hard to do but that the decision to resign was an easy one to make.

"I had to weigh up the financial restrictions that would be on us next season," he said.

"I had a meeting with the chairman about the budget for next season and I needed a week to think about things.

"But I also had to confront rumours about potential managers being spoken to while I was still in the job.

"It was disappointing that those rumours were flying about and, to be honest, the decision to resign was made easier because of it.

"I leave with a very heavy heart. I thought we did some very good things and I have to thank the players because they were excellent for me in my time there.

"Anyone who knows me will realise that I am going to keep my chin up and move onwards and upwards.

"I want to stay in the game and would like to do it on a local scale. I enjoyed it last season and I want to keep doing it."
