NO REPLACEMENT FOR SLIMBRIDGE 12/07/2007
As covered on nonleaguedaily on Wednesday, Sport Italia Hellenic League champions Slimbridge AFC have pulled out of the British Gas Business Southern League Division One Midlands and will run just a single team in Division One of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League this coming season.
Discussions with the Southern League also advised that their Midland section would operate with twenty-one clubs this coming season as a replacement club cannot be elevated at this time of the year.
This matter was confirmed by e-mail by the Football Association who state: “Unfortunately the rules of the National League System do not allow for any club to replace a resigning team at this stage. The Southern League Division One Midlands will run with twenty-one teams next season.
“The Regulations for the Establishment and Operation of the National League System only allows internal changes to the constitution of a league to be made following the holding of a league’s annual general meeting.”
