BARTON ANSWERS CITY SOS 29/10/2007
John Barton has been confirmed as the caretaker-manager at Blue Square North club Worcester City.
Barton, who will be assisted by former City forward Phil Stant, has been placed in temporary charge of team matters following Andy Preece's exit.
Barton (pictured), manager at Worcester for five years, and Stant will meet the players tonight for their first training session and will be at the helm for Saturday's trip to Vauxhall Motors.
However, neither will be making the role permanent as City begin their search to replace Preece, who had a contract until the end of this season.
Chairman David Boddy said: "I am delighted that John has answered our SOS call to help us through what is always a difficult period for a football club.
"It is a very important period for the club and it is vital to have somebody of John and Phil's experience and character to help us through it.
"It says everything about the man, and what he thinks of this club, that he should want to return and help us out in this way. John, however, has stressed that he is only prepared to do it in a temporary capacity."
Stant played for, among others, Hereford and Lincoln during his professional career and scored a dozen goals in twenty-four appearances for the St George's Lane club in the 2001/02 season.
