ANYTHING OTHER THAN AT LEAST A PLAY-OFF SPOT WILL BE A FAILURE
10/11/2009
John Crumplin, manager of Ryman league Division One South club Walton & Hersham, reckons anything other than a play-off spot for his side this season will be classed as a failure.

The Swans moved into fourth spot with a comfortable 3-0 win at Dulwich Hamlet at the weekend, with a game in hand on leaders Worthing.

And Crumplin (pictured) insists the surge up the table is no more than he expects.

He said: “This is the stage of the season where you either make your move or satisfy yourself with being a mid table side.

“My expectation is for us to finish in the top five.

“As far as I am concerned if we finish outside the play-offs then it will have been a failed season.

“I know that is a big statement to make but that is what I am striving for.”

A much-changed Walton line-up put Dulwich to the sword with strikes from Kevin Lock (two) and Michael Charles - a debut goal for the on-loan Hampton & Richmond Borough man.

And Crumplin has served notice there may be more changes on the way. He added: “I think we over-achieved at the start of the season and that was papering over the cracks a bit.

“We had a bit of a dip and I told the players if things did not improve there would be changes.

“If you do not put the effort in you will be gone.

“If you want to be part of a winning team you have to do what the manager says, and I think that message is getting through.”

Walton host strugglers Eastbourne Town this weekend, but Crumplin is taking nothing for granted.

He added: “They are struggling but they have drawn a lot of games.

“They are draw specialists and we cannot think we will just turn up and win the game.”
