BIG GAMES COMING UP FOR VALLEY
22/01/2010
Two local derbies in the space of four days await bottom-of-the-table Rugby Town but there's nothing but a positive attitude at Butlin Road as Lee Colkin's boys look to put an unbeaten Zamaretto League Premier Division run together.

It was six weeks since they last played, a 3-1 success at Clevedon Town for their first league win of the campaign, so there's sure to be some cobwebs that need brushing away. However, Valley will need to be back on their mettle smartly as they make the short trip to Banbury United on Saturday before going to promotion-seeking Nuneaton Town on Tuesday night.

Colkin confirmed his players are raring to get going again. He said: "It's been a frustrating period especially as we got that first win before the weather turned, but fortunately because of the facilities we have we've been able to train most weeks - so our fitness levels should be better than most.

"The players are really looking forward to getting back on the pitch for real though and getting stuck into some competitive action. The spirit is great and looking to carry on where they left off at Clevedon."

During the blank spell Valley have signed former Northampton Town midfielder Ross Oulton (pictured) from league rivals Brackley Town and he's due to make his debut against the Puritans at the weekend.

Colkin said: "Ross has looked very sharp in training and I'm sure he'll be a good asset. He was the first player I tried to bring to the club when I came to Rugby so when he became available recently I was delighted."

The Rugby boss underwent a hip operation earlier this week but is hopeful he will be discharged in time to attend the Banbury game, if not player/assistant-manager Michael Love will take charge of the side.
